The tragic December 14 shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., prompted an all-out response by Hearst’s Connecticut newspapers. The News-Times, Connecticut Post, Stamford Advocate and Greenwich Time—with support from other Hearst papers and Hearst’s WCVB-TV in Boston— collaborated on stories, blog posts, social media updates and photos to provide an amazingly complete picture of the tragedy.
The News-Times staff worked tirelessly to cover the chilling event and traumatic aftereffects unfolding in the paper’s neighboring town, while also dealing with the loss of Sandy Hook teacher Lauren Rousseau, the daughter of News-Times Copy Editor Teresa Rousseau.
"The coverage our teams provided under such extraordinarily difficult circumstances is remarkable,” says Hearst Newspapers President Mark Aldam. “They worked tirelessly, collaborated across papers—and across the company—and remain dedicated to telling the story of this tragedy from every angle as it continues to develop.”
